  • We took delivery of a factory-fresh Tesla Model 3 last week for a long-term test.

  • To get the most of our our Tesla 0wnership experience, we're equipping it with a popular option: a personalized vanity plate.

  • Our staff turned in more than 180 suggestions, and we narrowed it down to our two favorites. Now it's up to our readers to decide.

Last week, we welcomed a Midnight Silver Metallic Tesla Model 3 to our long-term fleet, and we're looking forward to finding out how the popular all-electric sedan performs over 40,000 miles. We noticed that almost every Tesla we see in our hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan, sports a clever personalized vanity plate, and we want to have the most authentic ownership experience we can.

We asked our staff to submit ideas for the vanity plate and expected to get a handful of options with one standout winner. Boy, were we wrong. We received more than 180 suggestions—some hilarious, some snarky, a few offensive, but mostly clever—which has complicated our decision. Two rounds of voting, several arguments, and some hurt feelings later, we've narrowed it down to our two favorites. Now, it's down to you, the readers, to decide.

The first option: CAR AND. This pokes fun at our Model 3's self-driving capability by suggesting that the DRIVER part of our name is no longer necessary.

The second option: CL1CKB8. It's a reminder that, here as on all online media, pageviews pay the bills.

Which is your favorite? Vote in the poll below. The winner will be embossed on a license plate where you'll be able to see it in photos in print and online throughout our 40,000 miles of real-world testing.

Check back soon for an official introductory review of our new Tesla, and watch for subsequent updates as we tally up the miles. In the meantime, you can read all about our last long-term Tesla, a Model S that we enjoyed from 2015 to 2017.
