With large sections of the country buried in snow, drivers from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship are preparing to turn laps at Daytona International Speedway in the annual Roar Before the Rolex 24 test on Jan. 3-5.

A field of 15 Prototypes and 25 GT race cars is entered in the mandatory three-day test session for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The 2018 Roar test offers race fans their first glimpse at the 2020 WeatherTech Championship and IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge cars and stars.

There will be eight cars in the marquee Daytona Prototype international (DPi) class from three manufacturers: Acura, Cadillac and Mazda. Action Express is down to one car, and the potential third Mazda does not appear to be ready for the opener.

There is year-over-year growth for the LMP2 division. In 2019 there were four cars for the opener, and there are seven in 2020 with two brands represented in the form of ORECA and Multimatic/Riley. The 2019 teams, PR1 (with two cars entered) and Performance Tech, are joined by defending Rolex class winner DragonSpeed, Era Motorsports, Rick Ware Racing and Tower Motorsport by Starworks.

There are seven cars entered into the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class, representing four manufacturers: Chevrolet, BMW, Ferrari and Porsche. Ford has departed the sport for now, but Porsche is back with two new 911 RSR 19s alongside BMW, Ferrari (with Risi) and Corvette Racing’s new C8.R.

The GT Daytona (GTD) class again features the largest entry list with 18 cars from nine manufacturers: Porsche, Lamborghini, Lexus, Aston Martin, Acura, Ferrari, Mercedes-AMG, Audi and BMW.
