Here's Everything Cadillac Is Planning For the Next Ten Years

From Road & Track

Over the past few months, we've seen a handful of conflicting reports about Cadillac's future. In April, we first heard that Cadillac was planning a sedan and SUV that'd cost over $250,000, then the following day, we heard that its Mercedes S-Class-fighting flagship sedan was cancelled. Now, though, a clearer picture is emerging, thanks to Cadillac's CEO Johan de Nysschen.

Following last week's reveal of the Escala sedan concept, de Nysschen jumped in the comments of a Detroit Bureau story to lay out Cadillac's future with unparalleled transparency. De Nysschen apparently felt the need to clear the air after the Detroit Bureau alleged that plans for a flagship would take a backseat.

"I do not know the sources of your information, but must assume they cannot be very high ranking," said de Nysschen. "Some of what you report is correct, some incorrect, most is conjecture."

You can see de Nysschen's full comments over at the Detroit Bureau, but we've included the specific bit about Cadillac's future portfolio.

"To clarify any misconception which may arise from your article, allow me to share future Cadillac product plans, as recently informed to our global dealer organization:

We ARE planning a Cadillac flagship which will NOT be a 4 door sedan;

We ARE planning a large crossover beneath Escalade;

We ARE planning a compact crossover beneath XT5;

We ARE planning a comprehensive enhancement to CT6 later during life cycle;

We ARE planning a major refresh for XTS;

We ARE planning a new Lux 3 sedan entry;

We ARE planning a new Lux 2 sedan entry;

These programs are secure and development work is well underway, with very substantial costs already committed."

While we're not entirely sure what "Lux 3" and "Lux 2" are referring to specifically, we've previously reported that a sub-ATS rear-wheel-drive Cadillac sedan is in development. Otherwise, nothing de Nysschen revealed here is entirely surprising, though his transparency is refreshing.

De Nysschen joined Cadillac two years ago, but with this revelation along with the Escala Concept, we're finally getting a taste for his vision of the automaker's future. Hopefully he can generate some much-needed sales with new crossovers, without abandoning the sports sedans we've grown to love.
