  • Honda confirms the Prelude is returning to the European market ahead of the concept’s appearance at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

  • The Honda Prelude concept debuted at the Japan Mobility Show in 2023.

  • The Prelude is set to use a hybrid powertrain as it re-enters the lineup.

Ahead of showing off the Prelude concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Honda is confirming the coupe is returning to its lineup. Well, it's heading to the European lineup, at least. After debuting at the Japan Mobility Show in 2023, the electrified coupe looked ready for a primetime production slot, and it’s finally here.

Honda still hasn’t released too much official information. Essential details like the powertrain are still locked away inside a Honda executive’s filing cabinet.

However, the folks at Honda have confirmed that a hybrid powertrain is making its way to the production Prelude, which could point to some answers.

Currently, the Civic Hybrid packs a 2.0-liter I4 that works with an electric motor and eCVT. The US-market Civic Hybrid is good for a combined 200 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque. This might not be the exact same powertrain heading toward the Prelude, but it should be similar.

While details about the production model are sparse, Honda does promise the new Prelude will bring the “joy of driving to customers across Europe.”

Confirming production for this Civic for Europe should be good news for US-based Prelude fans. However, we won’t know that for sure until Honda officially waves the green flag for this market.

The company didn’t say when it’s expected to start hitting the street. But we do know that you’ll be able to see the Prelude concept in person at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.
