After a significant update in 2012, the Insight remains largely unchanged for 2013. The most affordable hybrid on the market (besting the Prius C by $350) uses its 98 Horsepower, Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system that combines a 1.3-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine and 10-kilowatt electric motor to achieve a 41/44/42 mpg in city/highway/combined driving scenarios. Unfortunately for the Insight those $350 may be well spent on the Prius C that manages 53/46/60 respectively. The Honda does sport some unique features including racecar style paddle shifters in the EX trim level to at least humor the idea of spirited driving. But the spirit of driving this 5-door hatch is efficiency and it comes standard with the Eco Assist system that provides feedback on driving habits to help improve economical routines. Aside from hitting the ECON button to optimize throttle control, CVT operation and other systems, drivers can monitor Eco Assist providing real-time feedback via a 3D-like display in the speedometer that changes from green (being more efficient) to blue, indicating acceleration and braking. Reviews and Ratings
Overall
Pros Cons
Mileage fantastic. low cost of ownership Side visibility is poor - has blind spot
Fuel economy - consistently higher than epa estimate Car is very loud, drowns out the bluetooth phone
Value - best hybrid of its size for the price Windshield wipers - no place for them to move water to
Cargo space when folding seats Engine is noisy when accelerating on highway
Eco awareness : provides feedback about consumpion and rates driver Not enough options - would have liked sun roof.
Control panel is pretty, easy to read and a joy to have Cruise control ride is not as smooth over hilly roads
Has enough power for small engine Blind spots just over each shoulder - you have to be cautious.
Driver's console, steering wheel controls Styling is very much like a prius - maybe needs better distinction.
Climate control placement - easy use for driver. Would prefer to open fuel door and trunk from inside
Steering wheel - very sporty & controls laid out nicely Wind noise - obnoxious & totally unexpected - howling
