Three-Row Hyundai EV SUV Debuting Later This YearHyundai
  • Hyundai has announced that its first electric three-row SUV will debut later this year.

  • It should be based on the same E-GMP platform that underpins the three-row Kia EV9, meaning their battery and powertrains would be similar.

  • It's currently unclear what Hyundai's family-sized EV will be called, however, Ioniq 7 or Ioniq 9 are at the top of the list.

Ever since the Ioniq 7 concept was revealed a couple of years ago, we've been waiting for Hyundai to reveal a production version. While it remains to be seen how similar one made for the street will look to the one built for the stage—not to mention what it'll actually be called—we now know that Hyundai's first electric three-row SUV will be revealed sometime later this year.

Ioniq 7, 9, or Something Else?

Apart from announcing a debut timeframe, Hyundai didn't say anything else about its upcoming family-sized EV. Of course, we're confident it'll be based on the same E-GMP platform that underpins the company's other electric models as well as corporate counterparts such as the three-row Kia EV9. The latter also likely previews its powertrain and battery choices, with the mightiest EV9 currently making up to 379 horsepower and boasting a battery as big as 99.8 kWh.

The Ioniq 7 concept that was revealed back in 2021 at the Los Angeles auto show also provides some clues about how the production model will look, as recent Hyundai concepts have often remained true to form. Plus, Hyundai's top designers have previously told us what to expect for the final design. The list of things that should carry over to the production model include the pixel lighting and the flush hood badge, while the mostly glass rear hatch and the lounge-like interior will be replaced with something more traditional.

What will Hyundai's three-row EV be called? That remains a mystery. While it's easy to assume it'll be the Ioniq 7, the name Ioniq 9 has also been rumored to be an option. Or perhaps it'll be called something else entirely. Either way, we'll learn more information as its debut approaches.
