Incumbent judges Susan Steinhauer, Thomas Teodosio defeated

Voters on Tuesday decided two county common pleas court seats, a seat on the county domestic relations court and three seats on the Ohio 9th District Court of Appeals.

On the appeals court, results show all three Republican candidates defeating Democrats. The 2022 election was the first in Ohio where the party affiliation of appellate judge candidates was listed.

Summit County Court of Common Pleas

Incumbent Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison Breaux defeated challenger Clarissa Allega by a margin of nearly 2-1, earning 106,013 votes to 55,899 for Allega, according to final, unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections.

Breaux served as magistrate for five years before taking her seat on the court in January 2017.

Meanwhile, the race for the unexpired term ending in January 2025 went to Jennifer D. Towell, who defeated Elisa Hill 93,535 to 65,977, according to final, unofficial results. Towell is currently a magistrate with Akron Municipal Court, and Hill is a magistrate in the Summit County Domestic Relations Court.

As magistrate, Towell, a Navy veteran, coordinated the eviction hearings process and presided over small claims hearings, criminal arraignments and traffic court. She was also a “Connect” Developmental Disability Court Advisory Board member.

Summit County Domestic Relations Court

Kani H. Hightower, a magistrate with Akron Municipal Court, defeated incumbent Susan K. Steinhauer 85,612 to 77,215. Hightower is currently a magistrate with Akron Municipal Court. Steinhauer had been appointed to the common pleas court seat in April 2021.

The domestic relations court election erupted in controversy just before Election Day, with a cease-and-desist letter sent to the Hightower campaign and a defamation lawsuit filed against Steinhauer.

Ohio 9th District Court of Appeals

With all precincts in four counties counted, Republican challenger Scot Stevenson defeated Democratic incumbent Thomas A. Teodosio by about 6,000 votes, or 208,242 to 202,190.

Stevenson is currently chief magistrate of the Summit County Domestic Relations Court. Teodosio has been on the court since 2017. Prior to that, he served on the Summit County Court of Common Pleas for 10 years and was a member of Summit County Council, representing District 2.

Republican incumbent Donna J. Carr defeated Democratic challenger Erica Voorhees 221,959 to 185,453. Carr has served more than 24 years on the court. Voorhees is a magistrate and judicial attorney at the Summit County Court of Common Pleas, General Division.

Republican Jill R. Flagg Lanzinger defeated Democratic challenger Amber Crowe 219,224 to 186,435. Lanzinger is currently a judge on the Barberton Municipal Court. Crowe is magistrate with the Summit County Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division.
