Indy NXT Rookie Callum Hedge Pulls Off Stellar Save to Avoid the Wall at WWT
Callum Hedge was running in fifth right before the halfway point in Saturday's IndyNXT race. The NXT rookie lost control and slid off the preferred slicked racing line at the bottom while entering turn one during the Outfront Showdown at WWT Raceway in Madison, Illinois.
Hedge remained calm and quickly worked the wheel to stop the spin and straighten up about halfway up the track.
He was running fifth and fell to eighth while staying out of the wall instead of a potential DNF. Christian Bogle, Salvador de Elba Jr, and James Roe took advantage momentarily. Hedge was able to rebound and move back to fifth by the end of the race. Louis Foster won to extend his championship lead to 91 points over Jacob Abel.

"Callum Hedge, you're my hero," was shouted from the NBC Broadcast booth.
On the final lap, Hedge was running sixth and then battled side-by-side with Christian Brooks for the final spot in the top five.
This was the rookie's third top-five in a row and fifth of the season. He has finished on the podium once this season at the Detroit Grand Prix.
