Infiniti Kills Off Its Last Sedan, the Q50, after 2024
Infiniti won’t bring the current Q50 sedan to the United States for a 2025 model year.
The Q50 was a G-series replacement in 2013.
This is the last sedan remaining in the Infiniti lineup.
It looks like sedans might be dead at Infiniti, at least for now. The Infiniti Q50 sedan won’t be making the jump to the 2025 model year and will officially end its 11-year production run at the end of December. This sedan follows its coupe counterpart, which exited the Infiniti lineup at the end of 2022.
Infiniti isn’t the first brand to pivot away from sedans and coupes. This has been a growing trend in the automotive world because of the seemingly insatiable demand for crossovers and SUVs. However, helping make the decision to axe the Q50 easier for Infiniti brass might have been the Q50’s sharply declining performance on the sales chart. The Q50 is on pace to sell about 10% of its 2016 volume.
Still, with no obvious replacement for the Q50 in the works, you might wonder what will fill Infiniti showrooms. Well, that’s simple: crossovers and SUVs. Infiniti just launched its new generation of its flagship Q80 SUV. There’s also a QX50, QX55, and QX60 inside of the Infiniti portfolio.
There could be space for a battery-electric sedan to make its way to the Infiniti lineup. The company showed off its all-electric Qe concept last year, which could help fill the car void.
