Instant analysis of Tampa Bay’s Cody Mauch pick
After picking DT Calijah Kancey in Round 1, Tampa Bay still needed an offensive tackle. They didn’t waste time getting one.
North Dakota State tackle Cody Mauch is the newest Buccaneer, and Tampa Bay got great value in his selection. Mauch is a talented and athletic tackle who has been a stalwart in his time playing the position, letting up just two sacks in 801 snaps played. His selection is a continuation of a trend for GM Jason Licht, who has also taken small-school o-lineman like Ali Marpet and Alex Cappa in the past.
Mauch has good balance and his athleticism leads to fluid movement, but he’s a little lacking in length and will likely need to get some training on his hand usage in pass protection. Regardless, Mauch will serve as a great pick to replace LT Donovan Smith and his selection will have Tampa Bay comfortable heading into Round 3.
