Jaren Jackson Jr. sets Memphis Grizzlies single-game playoff record for blocks despite Game 1 foul trouble
Jaren Jackson Jr. had an eventful start to the 2022 NBA Playoffs.
Despite foul trouble and limited time on the floor, Jackson set the Memphis Grizzlies' single-game playoff record with seven blocks in Game 1 of the first round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday in FedExForum.
The record was previously held by Marc Gasol, who had six blocks against Oklahoma City in Game 4 of the 2013 Western Conference semifinals. It also ties Jackson's career-high in both the regular season and postseason. Jackson led the NBA with 177 blocks in the regular season.
It only took Jackson 16 minutes of playing time to break the record, which is a positive and negative point. Positive because of the numerous blocks, but negative because it occurred in the third quarter after Jackson sat for much of the second quarter with three fouls.
Jackson earned his seventh block of the game on a D'Angelo Russell shot attempt with 4:51 left in the third quarter. The Grizzlies forward then picked up his fourth foul less than a minute later and got his fifth foul early in the fourth quarter as the Timberwolves continued to lead Game 1.
