Jay Leno Drives the Original Ford Mustang Shelby GT350-H

From Road & Track

The collaboration between Hertz Rental Car and Ford is by now legendary. Back in 1966, Ford struck a deal whereby Hertz received a small fleet of special-edition Mustang Shelby GT350s, painted a signature black with gold stripes and labeled GT350-H. The rest, of course, is history.

Ford has repeated the collaboration a few times since then, including with an all-new 2016 Mustang Shelby GT-H built on the current generation 'Stang. But the original 1966 edition will always be the most notable.

And Jay Leno is here to give you a taste of what it's like to drive.

Of course, what was state-of-the-art technology back in 1966 is rudimentary today. If you were concerned with putting down the fastest lap time possible, you'd opt for the 2016 Mustang Shelby GT-H. But that '66 sure is stylish, and the sounds that it makes when Jay romps on it make up for any of the drawbacks of drum brakes or 50-year-old suspension design.

Given the choice, we'd take both.
