Earlier this year, we learned that Jaguar planned to build a nine-car continuation series of the legendary 1957 XKSS, to replace the ones that were destroyed in a fire in the late '50s. Last week, we got our first look at the new version of the old car, and it was stunning. As exact mechanical clones of the original cars, we're pretty sure these new ones are perfect in every way.

Sadly, we haven't yet convinced Jaguar to let us take a new XKSS for a spin. But Jay Leno's latest video might be the next-best thing. The British automaker brought its latest creation by the garage to let America's favorite denim granddad pore over all the little period-accurate details.

Yep, the street-legal version of the Jaguar D-Type still looks absolutely gorgeous. And there isn't a thing missing, from the recreated 3.4-liter inline six to the perfect wooden steering wheel.

While it's definitely disappointing that Leno doesn't get to drive the new XKSS, the video does show a few minutes of him behind the wheel of Steve McQueen's original version. Talk about a chance of a lifetime.
