Jeremy Clarkson Reveals Third and Final Stig Identity
Jeremy Clarkson has revealed the identity of the third and final driver who served as The Stig on Top Gear.
Clarkson identified the third Stig as Phil Keen during a Q&A session following a screening of the last-ever Grand Tour special earlier this month.
Keen wore the famous white racing suit from 2010 to 2022 and currently competes in the British GT Championship.
Whatever NDA was keeping Jeremy Clarkson quiet on the third and final Stig's identity appears to have expired. That or he simply decided to ignore it. Either way, thanks to Clarkson speaking at a Q&A session, we now know that Phil Keen was the third and final Stig on Top Gear.
There were three Stigs throughout Top Gear's 33 seasons. Perry McCarthy was the first. He was the only Stig to wear a black racing suit and lasted two seasons. Ben Collins came next and is the driver who comes to mind when we think of the masked character. Collins wore the suit from the show's third season through the 15th, with a brief hiatus that allowed Michael Schumacher to cameo in the role. He was fired in 2010 after going public about the role in his autobiography The Man in the White Suit.
Thanks to Clarkson, we now know that Phil Keen took over from 2010 to 2022. Keen is still an active racing driver and joined 2Seas Motorsport this year as he returned to full-time racing in the British GT Championship. Keen also races in the European Le Mans series in the #66 Ferrari. He's considered the greatest British GT Championship driver ever, with 24 wins, 16 poles, and a Supersport class win.
The Q&A was held at Clarkson's personal farm and followed a screening of the most recent and final Grand Tour special called "One for the Road." The video of Clarkson's Q&A is around 25 minutes long and was shared on YouTube by a private account. The BBC has put Top Gear to rest in its current form, following a crash that injured Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff, one of the show's hosts. Amazon, for its part, has expressed interest in continuing The Grand Tour with new hosts. Clarkson offered his opinion on the idea, recommending they look for young enthusiasts who aren't famous yet, much like the original trio.
