Jimmie Johnson, seven-time NASCAR Cup champion, announced today via Twitter he will retire from full-time racing in the series after the 2020 season.

Johnson currently drives the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet entry. He's spent his entire career with the team since his rookie season in 2001. He's been immensely successful, with two Daytona 500 wins, and four wins each at the Coca-Cola 600 and Brickyard 400. His seven titles have him tied for the most of all time, alongside Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty. He currently ranks sixth on NASCAR's all-time win list, with 83 victories.

Johnson's won his last championship in 2016, and took his last win in June 2017 at Dover International Speedway.

Johnson is arguably one of the best NASCAR drivers of all time. The field won't be the same come 2021, that's for sure.
