If you're looking for a cheap city car that can put a smile on your face while still being practical every day, you'll be hard-pressed to find something as quirky as this all-wheel drive Suzuki Alto Works RSR Kei car. It's for sale, and you should buy it.

This particular Alto is a later second-generation 1992 model, recently imported from Japan under the 25-year rule. Like most Kei cars, it uses a transversely mounted front engine layout, limited to a displacement of 660cc. Power from the 12-valve three-cylinder is capped at 64 horsepower and and 63 lb.-ft. of torque, going to a five-speed manual transmission. Where this car differs from most other Kei cars is in the rest of the drivetrain-it sends power to all four wheels.
The Alto Works also got a unique fascia, complete with an offset bumper decal, plate mount, and hood intake. According to the seller on eBay Motors, this particular car comes with working air conditioning, aftermarket speakers, tinted windows, and a Japanese-language aftermarket head unit with TV, MP3, and DVD inputs built in. We have a feeling it would be difficult to get the TV receiver working stateside.
Performance modifications are limited to a blow-off valve, a 5zigen exhaust, and an aftermarket intake. If it were up to me, I'd clean up the aftermarket speaker wiring in the back, replace the head unit with something that can receive US broadcast signals, and maybe remove the tint.
Otherwise, this car seems perfect for anyone living in a city that happens to get snow during the winter-if you're okay with living with a JDM car, that is. Be prepared to deal with hard-to-source parts, navigating through a sea of comparatively giant SUVs, and having people bombard you with questions about why the steering wheel is on the wrong side. Oh, and if you're going through a drive-thru, make sure to do it backwards.
