Kia unveiled a futuristic family SUV with 300 miles of range and room for 7 — see the EV9
Kia revealed the US version of its latest electric SUV, the 2024 EV9, at the New York International Auto Show.
The chunky three-row family SUV has a stylish cabin, up to 300 miles of range, and seating for seven.
It arrives in the US in late 2023, and Kia hasn't announced pricing yet.
Kia is looking to feed America's appetite for large, three-row SUVs with a brand-new electric model called the EV9.
The Korean brand unveiled its futuristic creation to the world last month.
It followed up on Wednesday by revealing details about the US version at the New York Auto Show.
The EV9 is destined to bring a more accessible, zero-emission option to large families.
Rivian, Tesla, and Mercedes-Benz will all sell you a big, seven-seat SUV, but those all cost six figures or close to it.
The Tesla Model Y is available with a third row, but it's tiny.
The EV9 won't disappoint when it comes to range. Kia is targeting 300 miles for a rear-wheel-drive version with an optional large battery pack.
But expect less than that if you choose an all-wheel-drive model (which adds a second, energy-sucking motor) or the smaller battery.
Better yet, Kia is quoting some impressive charging speeds.
The EV9 will charge at 230 kilowatts at sufficiently powerful stations, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in less than 25 minutes, Kia says.
Some rivals are only rated to suck in half that amount of power. The more kilowatts an electric car can absorb from a fast-charging station, the quicker it can replenish its battery pack and get back on the road.
The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive model packs 215 horsepower, Kia says. But a sporty GT-Line model will provide a generous 379 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
If you don't know those numbers mean, just know the GT-Line will rocket to 60 mph in five seconds, according to Kia's estimates.
Judging by its appearance and striking design, the EV9 looks like a winner.
It takes the general design and proportions of Kia's popular Telluride and injects some futuristic flair.
The EV9 is chock-full of bold edges and sculpted corners.
