The Kia Rio used to be the type of car that would garner an audible groan from any individual unlucky enough to find the keys to one waiting for them at the rental car facility. Four generations in, the Rio is more likely now to conjure a grin than a groan. Small changes to the overall dimensions like a 70 mm longer wheelbase and 25 mm wider body mean the smallest car in Kia's range still offers plenty of room. Aiming to keep one space full - the gas tank - the Rio offers an optional Eco Package with ISG (Idle Stop & Go). This system, usually found on much more expensive and much more German vehicles, cuts the engine when the car is stopped to not waste gas while it's not moving. Other premium type enhancements can be found throughout the stop-and-go parts of the plucky little people mover. The transmission has gained two gears from last generation to a much more efficient 6-speed automatic and even the rear drum brakes have been swapped for discs. All these improvements do come at a price. While the starting MSRP for a base sedan is a very reasonable $13,600, a Rio was once available for less than $10,000. See more... See Less
