You would think that any 16-year-old obsessed with cars would be satisfied by attending car shows, perusing automotive magazines and websites, watching the Fast & Furious franchise, and pinning posters of supercars to his bedroom walls. Not Kyle Behar. The South Florida high school junior wanted to do more; he wanted to find a way to use his love of cars to help others. So Behar, with the assistance of his family, created a car show to raise money for a good cause.

The event, Supercars for SuperKids, benefiting the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Foundation, took place in June. Behar's efforts snagged 65 cool cars, which were staged in the parking lot of a local brewery that he had convinced to donate space for the event. A group of the hospital's young patients served as judges. In all, the show raised about $4000, which will go toward purchasing kid-size electric cars that children can ride in on their way to the operating room, hopefully reducing their anxiety over what comes next. "It will make it more fun and relaxing for them," explains Behar.

So where does a 16-year-old kid come up with an idea like this? "My dad and I go to a lot of car events on weekends because it's our passion," explains Behar. At these cars-and-coffee gatherings, "there are, obviously, a lot of wealthy people. I thought, 'We do this so often, I might as well throw my own car show and have it serve a good cause.' "

Caring about something bigger than yourself is a rare enough trait in adults, let alone in a teenager. Behar isn't spending much time basking in the afterglow of the SuperKids event; he's already thinking about next year's show. "We might want to raise money for a different charity every year," he says.
