Lamborghini Seized from Australian Man on Unemployment Benefits
Detectives in Australia have seized a Lamborghini Huracan, a Harley-Davidson V-Rod and a pair of Rolex watches — a haul with a claimed combined value of more than AU$500,000, or around $337,000 in U.S. currency — from a 39-year-old man who has has been collecting unemployment benefits since 2019 and has no other listed income, according to the New South Wales Police Force.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, police say the man may have ties to organized crime.
Unemployment benefits are designed to temporarily keep people afloat when they're out of work — so you can imagine that an unemployed man claiming those benefits driving around town in a Blu Cepheus Lamborghini Huracan may raise some eyebrows. Unfortunately for the man, some of the eyebrows he raised belong to detectives of the Australian Organized Crime Squad.
In May, the State Crime Command’s Organized Crime Squad detectives and the NSW Crime Commission launched an investigation into the unexplained wealth of individuals with alleged links to organized crime networks. Two months later, detectives executed a search warrant at the Lamborghini owner's home in Parramatta, New South Wales — a suburb of Sydney — where they found the blue Lamborghini as well as the aforementioned watches and motorcycle, the latter clad in a Lambo-matching paint scheme.
The suspect was charged with “dishonestly possess interfered with unique identifier," which appears to be a uniquely Australian way of phrasing his alleged offense. The man has a court appearance scheduled for October 4.
