Yahoo Autos Legendary IndyCar Team Owner Carl Haas Has Died
Carl Haas, the legendary IndyCar owner and Paul Newman's business partner, passed away last week at his home. He was 86.
Haas was perhaps best known as half of the fantastic Newman/Haas Racing IndyCar team, one of the most successful organizations in the history of the series. If you were a great IndyCar driver, there's a very good chance that you drove for Carl Haas and Paul Newman. Mario and Michael Andretti, Paul Tracy, Nigel Mansell, Cristiano DaMatta, Sebastien Bourdais, Oriol Servia, Graham Rahal, and Justin Wilson are just some of the massively talented drivers that spent time in a Newman/Haas car.
Carl Haas was also known as a character in the IndyCar paddock, a giant cigar always in his mouth. Paul Newman loved to tell the story of how the two became co-owners of a team:
