Lexus Kits Out New GX and LX SUVs for SEMA
Lexus is getting in on the overlanding trend just in time for this year’s SEMA Show, bringing a number of modified 4x4s to the Vegas convention center. The mix of GX and LX SUVs feature a ton of parts that Lexus owners can order for themselves, hinting at what we might soon see out on the trails.
The all-new 2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail+ AAP is the most exciting of the builds, constructed using a number of the brand’s Associated Accessory Products. Right away, you’ll notice the truck’s bespoke two-tone paint job, which gives the SUV a thoroughly modern and high-end appearance. The beefy 18-inch wheels and 33-inch tire combo is retained from the stock truck, as are the black overfenders. Other standard GX equipment includes a large aluminum skid plate, as well as all-weather floor liners to protect against sand and mud. A set of genuine Lexus rock rails have been installed to help in tricky sections, while a branded on-board tire compressor makes airing back up a breeze. Any overland rig needs to have some storage solution, with this GX employing a Prinsu Roof Rack with Pelican storage cases. The truck also features a set of roroPax two-gallon cans, as well as ARB Tred Pro recovery boards and a DMOS Delta shovel should things go sideways.
The Lexus crew wasn’t limited to using new products for their SEMA builds, allowing for a serious amount of mods to be done to this 2022 GX 460. The build starts with an upgraded set of 18-inch wheels wrapped in 34-inch Toyo Open Country A/T rubber. A set of CBI Offroad rock sliders work in tandem with a series of underbody skid plates to help the newly wrapped bodywork safe. Bright yellow is an aggressive choice for a large SUV, particularly when you look at Lexus’ factory color palette. The build also features a Prinsu roof rack, which comes equipped with a Kammok hammock stand, and a 10-foot double hammock. An ARB fridge/freezer combo will keep all of your essentials chilled down, and they won’t slide around thanks to the bespoke mounting hardware. Recovery hardware includes items like a portable ARB air compressor, a Weekender Recovery kit, and recovery boards from Tred.
For those who need something a bit more capable than the GX lineup, the automaker also brought out the modified 2022 Lexus LX 600 Premium AAP Build. Inspired by a day at the lake, the SUV wears a bright Aquamarine wrap. That color is accented by some optional appearance packages, such as the matte-finished grille and black exterior trimmings. Lexus apparently didn’t feel the need to step beyond the truck’s optional 18-inch wheels with 33-inch tires, so it retains a factory look in that sense. This truck’s roof rack is adorned with a car awning provided by Kammok, as well as a Yakima paddleboard and surfboard rack. Yakima also supplied its Exo OpenRange camp kitchen bundle, which comes mounted on their Swing Base setup. It’s not the most hardcore build, but the LX is a mighty capable machine right off the showroom floor.
Lexus SUVs of all ages have proved popular among the overlanding crowd, with the GX models in particular garnering a great reputation. Many buyers are likely unaware of the brand’s Associated Accessory Products program, which offers most of the parts you see here. A group of SEMA builds is a proven way to get those products in front of those buyers.
