Man Drives Through Tornado, Has The Video To Prove It

Driving through a violent storm just isn’t a great idea. A man in Clarksville, Tennessee has dashcam footage of what happened when he inadvertently drove through a tornado on December 9 and it’s ugly. For anyone who thinks that driving through such conditions is really no big deal, the video should put that silly thought to rest permanently.

In the dashcam footage, you can see the guy is driving along a road with plenty of low-hanging storm clouds in every direction. Suddenly, sparks start shooting from the power poles as the wind kicks up debris.

Realizing he’s headed for disaster, the driver flips a quick U-turn. You see a truck pulling a trailer getting off the road rapidly as the trailer rocks back and forth precariously. Other vehicles stop where they are, the drivers probably unsure what to do in the moment as debris rains down as heavily as the water. We’re not sure if that was the better strategy or if this guy made things worse, because it almost looks like he drove straight toward the tornado itself instead of getting away from it.

Per The Weather Network, the guy who drove through this tornado is 25-year-old Cameron McNeil. He wasn’t the only one on the road at the time, making us question if there was a tornado alert and if so, why all those people just went about their day like it was no big deal.

McNeil probably regrets his decision, stating that his car was “totally totaled.” We totally can’t imagine why with all that debris flying around at high speeds. After all, tornados have been known to embed pieces of straw into tree trunks and other such crazy things, demonstrating the sheer force they command.

We know from experience how suddenly tornados can appear and that not everyone takes alerts seriously since they often don’t result in an actual tornado touching down. Perhaps this will serve as a reminder that unless you absolutely need to be out and about during a warning, it might be better to stay put at home.
