Yahoo Autos Mazda to Begin Restoration Service for NA Miatas
Mazda is joining the ranks of Mercedes-Benz and Lamborghini by starting its own factory restoration service in Japan. The subject, of course, is the iconic MX-5 Miata, specifically the original NA generation that first launched in 1989. For now, Mazda says it’s only offering the restoration program for customers in its home market, but there may be some reissued parts made available elsewhere, including the United States.
We don’t yet know how much the restorations will cost, and the treatment will vary greatly depending on the condition of the customers’ cars. Mazda says it will meet individually with each customer and tailor the restoration to each individual car. Orders open up this year for NA MX-5 owners in Japan, with restorations set to start at the beginning of 2018.
Even if Miata owners outside Japan won’t be able to participate in the factory restoration, this is still good news for Miata fanatics elsewhere. Mazda plans to restart production on certain NA Miata parts, including Bridgestone tires in the original 185/60R-14 size, the Nardi wood steering wheel and shift knob, and the original soft top, meaning that these items might be available to buy elsewhere. We are still investigating the details about where you can buy these goodies, but that only gives us the excuse to write about Miatas again soon, so stay tuned for more news on this restoration project as Mazda gets things started over the next few months.
