For the modern driving enthusiast that needs to fit six friends and arrive in style, the CX-9 may be the best vehicle for the job. Besting even the designated family hauling Mazda5 minivan by one seat, the redesigned-for-2013 SUV offers spacious seating for all three rows and a potential 100.7 cu. ft. of cargo space should the cabin end up void of any passengers. With all seven seats occupied the 3.7-liter V6's 273 horsepower should move everyone along nicely. Standard conveniences like the SMS text message audio delivery and reply will keep hands firmly at 9 and 3 to keep precious cargo (human or otherwise) safe, while the available 9-inch DVD entertainment system will keep cargo (probably human) entertained. Of course sharing a lineage with the likes of the classic RX-7 and MX-5 sports cars, the CX-9 couldn't wear a Mazda badge on its nose without exciting driving dynamics. MacPherson strut front suspension, multilink rear suspension and stabilizer bars all cooperate to offer the driving sensation of a much smaller vehicle. Active Torque-Split All-Wheel Drive constantly monitors wheel slip and distributes power as needed for maximum grip in spirited driving or slippery conditions. See more... See Less

Reviews and Ratings
Overall
Pros Cons
Value for the money. vehicle compares well to much higher priced cars. Very poor gas mileage - less than advertised
Vehicle exterior - i love the way this car looks - very sporty Very poor visibility out back and right front side
Comfortable and versatile seating. Center arm rest with wacky split opening
Handling - i feel very safe regardless of weather conditions High wind / interior road noise
Styling of vehicle is way above average for suv. Console is too massive in front, obstrusive
Automatic transmission is well dialed regardless of incline Not useful storage - wife complains nowhere to put purse
Drives well: good pickup and turning radius Difficult to judge distances when parking
The hands free bluetooth nicely syncs with the audio system Light does not stay on when trunk hatch is open.
Steering and overall handling are excellent No cover for cargo bay due to auto lift gate
Pickup while passing & smoothness while driving Not enough head room getting in and out of vehicle
