McLaren Hints at a P1 Supercar Successor
The McLaren F1 made its debut over 30 years ago and immediately put the company’s road-going machines on the map.
The McLaren P1 wrapped up its production nearly a decade ago, after sitting at the top of McLaren’s lineup.
McLaren hints in a short teaser about what customers can expect from McLaren's future and hints at a P1 successor.
McLaren might be showing off a P1 successor—at least that’s the tone of a recent teaser dropped to the company’s YouTube channel.
After the absence of a road-going “1” machine in its lineup, the team at McLaren made a short video discussing its legendary McLaren F1 and P1 models but closed with a teaser of a possible upcoming “1” model.
Okay, so the video doesn’t exactly outline that there will be a P1 successor. However, the video does close with McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris at the helm of a McLaren P1 with a voice overlay that says: “Here’s the time that the world gets to see what McLaren gets to do next.”
It should be fair to say that even without a true P1 successor, the McLaren road car division has had no shortage of high-performance models. The 720S, now 750S, sits at the top of the brand’s performance hierarchy, with the new Artura hybrid sitting below. Of course, there’s also been a rise in hypercar competition from the likes of Aston Martin, Mercedes-AMG, and Red Bull.
McLaren closes the video with a date and a time: October 6 at 13:00 BST. That means we might have more information about a P1 successor that day at 8:00 am Eastern. You can check out the video above.
