The newest addition to Lego's Technic lineup is a detail-oriented 1:8 scale model of the McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar.
When assembled, the Lego P1 measures 23 inches long, 9.5 inches wide, and more than 5.5 inches tall. The set includes a staggering 3893 pieces.
The P1 officially goes on sale on August 1 and can be ordered for $450 on Lego's website.
It's been roughly 10 years since McLaren launched the 903-hp P1 hypercar, and barely a day goes by that we don't look back with fondness for its violent speed and otherworldly looks. The team at Lego seems to share our sentiment, because the newest addition to the Lego Technic lineup is a 1:8 scale model of the legendary hypercar.
Like all Lego Technic models, the P1 set is focused on the nitty-gritty details. Owners will be tasked with building the McLaren's seven-speed gearbox along with its shifter drum, a V-8 engine with moving pistons, an adjustable rear wing, and functional dihedral doors. And each Lego P1 even comes with a unique serial number with access to exclusive online content.
You'll need to carve out some new shelf space if you wind up buying the P1 because this thing is huge. With 3893 pieces, the P1 has over 100 more pieces than the equally magnificent Ferrari Daytona SP3 kit from a few years ago. Fully assembled, the P1 measures 23 inches long, 9.5 inches wide, and more than 5.5 inches tall.
With nearly 4000 pieces and such a high level of detail, the set doesn't come cheap. It officially goes on sale for $450 starting August 1 in stores and on Lego's website. Lego Insiders members who order the kit between August 1 and 7 will also get a Technic McLaren P1 logo sticker along with the set.
