McLaren W1 Confirmed as P1 Successor
McLaren hinted that it was showing off a P1 Successor earlier this week.
McLaren has confirmed that a P1 successor will carry the W1 name.
McLaren is set to show off this supercar on October 6, 2024.
Speculation is out the window: McLaren has confirmed that a P1 successor is not only in the works but will show its face in a matter of days. Going further, McLaren has even confirmed its name: W1.
If you’re wondering where this alphanumeric name came from, McLaren has an answer. The company said about the name, “The W1 name celebrates McLaren’s World Championship mindset, with the public reveal date marking the 50th anniversary of McLaren winning its first Formula 1 Constructors’ World Championship, and Emerson Fittipaldi winning the 1974 World Drivers’ Championship with McLaren.”
While this W1 won’t look too much like Fittipaldi’s M23 which won the company’s first constructor’s championship, it should help elevate McLaren’s roadcars as its predecessors have done. Still, the supercar and hypercar space is crowded with some of the most over-the-top machines ever made, which should put some pressure on the brand to roll out something special.
Regardless, we’re going to know what this McLaren W1 looks like on October 6, 2024, at 13:00 BST, or 8:00 am Eastern, whichever comes first.
