Existing almost purely as a novelty icon to the Mercedes brand, the G-Class has gone 34 years with little change to its winning formula. Retaining its iconic cube-on-cube design the G receives another modest facelift for 2013. A simple LED strip under each familiar circle headlight housing brings the face to the new millennium while the tall, narrow greenhouse and squared wheel-arches keep the body in all its 70's utilitarian glory. The interior has come a long way in 3 decades and will positively spoil adventure seekers with its plush leather, heated everything and technology like voice controlled navigation and 80GB hard-drive. Speaking of hard drives, the G didn't earn its reputation by looking good and having cool toys, it is very much a proper off-roader. Sitting on an increasingly rare sheet steel ladder frame that's been dip-primed and power-coated the body stays stiff in any terrain, while three electrically controlled 100-percent differential locks assure the 5,500 lb beast makes it up any surface. The permanent AWD operates at a default 50:50 power distribution, but the 4ETS (Electronic Traction System) allocates power to the wheels with most traction when needed. The G then remains an icon that talks the talk and walks the walk. See more... See Less
