The 1999 M-Class is a 4-door, 5-passenger luxury sport-utility, available in two trims, the ML320 and the ML430. The 1999 M-Class's closest competitors include the Acura SLX, the Infiniti QX4 (1999.5), and the Toyota Land Cruiser.
Upon introduction, the ML320 is equipped with a standard 3.2-liter, V6, 215-horsepower engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 21-mpg on the highway. The ML430 is equipped with a standard 4.3 V8, 268-horsepower engine that achieves 15-mpg in the city and 18-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
