The 2005 S-Class is a 4-door, up to 5-passenger luxury sedan, or luxury sports sedan, available in 4 trims, ranging from the S430 Sedan to the S600 Sedan.

Upon introduction, the S430 Sedan is equipped with a standard 4.3-liter, V8, 275-horsepower engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway. A 7-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard, and a 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional. The S600 Sedan is equipped with a standard 5.5-liter, V12, 493-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 12-mpg in the city and 19-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The 2005 S-Class is a carryover from 2004.
