The 2001 SLK-Class is a 2-door, 2-passenger convertible sports car, available in two trims, the SLK230 Kompressor and the SLK320. The 2001 SLK-Class's closest competitors include the Audi TT, the Chrysler Prowler, and the Porsche Boxster.
Upon introduction, the SLK230 Kompressor is equipped with a standard 2.3-liter, I4, 190-horsepower, supercharged engine that achieves 20-mpg in the city and 29-mpg on the highway. The SLK320 is equipped with a standard 3.2-liter, V6, 215-horsepower engine that achieves 18-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims, and a 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional.
