As one of two cars in Mitsubishi's lineup, the Lancer wears a lot of hats for the company. The base Lancer is a compact sedan running in the pack against Civics, Corollas and Sentras with its 148 horsepower 2.0-liter MIVEC engine. What's relatively unique to the Lancer compared to those cars is the option for all-wheel drive and 168 horsepower on the SE trim level and 237 horsepower from a turbocharged version of the 2.0-liter MIVEC engine on the Lancer Ralliart. Mated with the AWC (All Wheel Control) all-wheel drive system, the Ralliart's performance comes at a price though, a price that starts at $28,095. The two less powerful variants of the Lancer are also available in a slick Sportback body that extends the sedans 12.3 cu. ft. of trunk space to 52.7 cu. ft. with the rear 60/40 split bench folded down. The crowning achievement of the Lancer range and the Mitsubishi brand is the Lancer Evolution. A legend in Japan for decades, the Evo has made a name for itself on these shores as a force to be reckoned with using its 291 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder and astounding Super All-Wheel Control system to dominate cars worth twice as much.
