Far too often, it seems mothers (and if they’re present, fathers) line up in front of news cameras to make excuses for their child’s illegal activities. After a constant stream of that garbage, it sure is nice to see a mother convince her son to stop running from police and give himself up.
Street racer whines for his mommy and daddy when caught.
It was in Los Angeles, California during a televised police chase between police and two suspects in a stolen Hyundai crossover. Usually these situations end differently, like a crash, shootout, or the suspects running away on foot. But this time mom marched right up to the vehicle and had a stern talking to with her son with KCAL News capturing it all on camera.
Even though her son was in the passenger seat, this mother knew she had to end things before one of those less-fortunate outcomes unfolded. Before she launched into lecture mode, police were able to slow down the chase by successfully spiking one of the Hyundai’s tires.
Before that, the chase was reaching high speeds and involved plenty of close calls. Surely mom saw that and worried her son could be badly hurt or worse.
But after the successful spike, the driver pulled over on the side of a residential street, clearly weighing his options. Police wanted the duo to surrender, but they weren’t following order. That’s when mom walked over and gave both boys inside the stolen vehicle an earful.
She also had a verbal exchange with police, giving everyone some lip.
Ultimately, the two suspects, her son and his friend, got out of the Hyundai and surrendered to police. That’s when mom ends her lecture and backs off, letting law enforcement do their job unimpeded.
Some might be wondering where mom was before her son got into a stolen car. We know sometimes as a parent you can do everything right, or at least mostly right, and your kid can still make poor decisions. We admire this mother for getting in there and providing some stern correction when it was needed most.
