The chase reached speeds over 100 mph as the teens raced around in the Mopar muscle car. He even went into a park, driving around on the grass like they were in some sort of video game.
But the inexperienced driver’s poor skills eventually ran out and he wasn’t able to negotiate a turn later while back on the street, losing control and sending the vehicle careening nose-first into a tree.
The teen who was the front passenger wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and suffered major head trauma in the crash, dying days later while in the hospital. The three other people in the Dodge were also hurt in the crash, though not critically.
That mother, Candie Springer, will have to wait a little longer for her day in court. As they say, the wheels of justice grind slowly and a report from KGET indicates the mother’s preliminary court hearing has been pushed back to May 15.
Why it was postponed wasn’t explained.
Springer’s teenage son made a plea deal with prosecutors last year. He was convicted on several charges, including vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. In return, the judge ordered him to complete 200 hours of a juvenile work program as well as stick to his probation terms.
It remains to be seen if Candie Springer will also strike a deal with prosecutors for her role in the deadly crash. She’s facing felony child cruelty and a misdemeanor charge for allowing an unlicensed person to drive.
