There are a lot of theories about why, but Ford Mustangs crash into all sorts of things. But this one abandoned in Mission Bay by San Diego, California is one of the more unusual cases we’ve seen. Not only do we not see cars of any kind just left in ocean bays, it’s what happened after police arrived that make this one so interesting.

See a C8 Corvette that was driven into the Caribbean Sea.

As captured on video by OnScene TV, the newer Mustang was found just sitting in the salt water. There was some visible damage to the roof on the driver’s side, but it wasn’t clear exactly what that was from.

The footage did capture a bag visible inside the Mustang with several empty White Claw cans. In other words, intoxication was likely involved in the unusual accident as well as the decision to abandon the vehicle.

The Mustang wasn’t sitting in deep water, but instead was found with the water up to the doors. Onlookers stood on the dock, staring at the partly submerged pony car in disbelief. After all, it’s not everyday they see a vehicle just left in the bay like that.

OnScene TV says the owners of the Ford Mustang showed up while police were waiting for a tow truck to come fish the pony car out of the water. They told officers they had no idea how their ride ended up in the bay, claiming to not have been behind the wheel at the time.

However, it wasn’t clear how they knew where the Mustang was located or if it had reportedly been stolen, taking for a joyride, then dumped in the bay. We suppose that’s a possibility but there’s no word on if that’s what actually happened.
