NASCAR has announced plans to race in at Mexico City's Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in 2025, the home of the Mexican Grand Prix. The race is the first points-paying Cup Series event outside of the U.S. ever run.

The race will be held on the track's road course, rather than the rarely-used oval also built into the Hermanos Rodriguez complex. NASCAR is expected to use the full 2.7-mile grand prix layout, not the shortened version used by Formula E.

Although this is the first Cup Series race in Mexico, it is the culmination of years of work to build the market as a viable option for NASCAR. In the 2000s, the second-tier Xfinity Series raced at Hermanos Rodriguez four times. NASCAR also organizes an entire regional championship, the NASCAR Mexico Series.

One graduate, Daniel Suarez, has become an Xfinity Series champion and Cup Series winner. That makes him the only driver to ever move up from a regional international series and become a race winner in the top level of stock car racing. Suarez was the winner of a three-wide photo finish at Atlanta earlier this year and has already locked himself into the 2024 NASCAR playoffs.

NASCAR's marquee Mexico City event will be run on June 15th, shortly after the Xfinity Series returns to Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on June 14th. The rest of the 2025 NASCAR schedule will be announced at a later date.
