The new 2015 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is set to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month marking the second generation of this popular car. The Alltrack gets a higher ride height than the regular Passat as well as suspension that is more softly tuned.
There are also protective panels, 4Motion all-wheel drive and a 17″ set of wheels that are unique to the Alltrack. Buyers can choose 18″ or 19″ wheels as an option. 4Motion means the car will drive as a front-wheel-drive vehicle until the road surface gets slippery and a Haldex coupling sends drive to the rear wheels.
There is also an electronic differential lock to manage torque between the wheels and Volkswagen’s Off Road program. This adjusts the ABS, electronic differential lock, throttle and shift points to provide the best possible traction.
Powertrains include a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine with 237 horsepower or a gasoline variant that provides a slightly lower 220 horsepower. Both a six-speed manual and six-speed DSG dual-clutch will be available. If this all sounds good, hope you don’t live in the US. The Alltrack is based on the version of the Passat sold outside the US, so it likely will never make it to our shores.
