Every generation brings with it a hoard of cars bound to be future classics. And as with this generation, we’re obviously seeing much of the same. But what cars in the market right now will go down in history — at one point or another — as “classics.” These six might be worth making an investment in:
The BMW 1M is one of the best cars BMW has ever made. Ever. It hit the market in 2010, and its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter engine delivered some 340 horsepower. But it wasn’t the sheer power that made it what it was, it was the overall feel behind the wheel. Total driving bliss.
At a starting price of $46,000 brand new, the 1M ran in limited numbers before it was off the market for good in 2012, with just over 6,300 units sold worldwide. Want a grab a used one for sale on the web today? You’ll be dishing out close to $70K.
Like any great automaker, BMW is moving on to bigger and better things with the new 4 Series — the much-anticipated successor to the 3 Series coupe. But it’s the high-performance E92 M3 coupe that will leave enthusiasts tripping over themselves to get one in a decade’s time.
OK, so the Fisker Karma was never really the greatest car in the world. Probably because it was on fire a lot. But if you wanted to buy a used one today, you’d be in for about a quarter of what the car is actually worth. Which is a good thing.
You see, Fisker was a failed science experiment, and with any good experiment gone wrong (see: DeLorean), there’s a few eager blokes who want a piece of that action. It’s going to be a while before we see Fisker’s fetching any sort of outrageous numbers in the market, but cash in now while they’re cheap.
In its one year run, the second generation of the Mustang Boss 302 is bound to go down a future classic. An American heritage paired to one of the Mustang’s most iconic nameplates, and a limited production run. Get ‘em now while they’re hot.
We’ve already seen used LFAs fetching in the millions, which is somewhat outrageous. But is it really a surprise to anyone that Lexus’ first supercar — of which, only 500 were built — is already becoming one of the most wanted used supercars of the year? We didn’t think so either.
The Toyobaru twins (Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ) are the two best sportscars of 2013. There’s no two ways about it. And what makes these cars so special — aside from being the two best driver’s cars around — is their limited availability.
Scion alone only made 10,000 FR-Ss available in 2012, while Subaru was even slimmer at 6,000. This year we’re bound to see more of the coupes, but even so, the two will always be some of the most desirable cars on the market.
