For sports fans — basketball fans in particular — this is a day to celebrate. Today, February 17, Michael Jeffrey Jordan turns 52. It’s been 12 years since MJ was on the court, and yet, not a day goes by when his name doesn’t come up in basketball conversations. He is the greatest ever, plain and simple. But his excellence extends off the court.
Never one to short on spending, Jordan’s auto game has always been on point, whether it was his famous Ferrari Testarossa or one of his numerous Aston Martins. Here are a few photos that we could confirm belonged to Jordan.
Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 40th Anniversary Edition
With 450 horsepower, only 448 of these ZR1s were built and only 220 had the special Anniversary Edition designation. You know MJ had to pick one up.
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition
This is a perfect example of superfluous excellence. The SLR McLaren already had 617 horses, but the 722 Edition upped that to 650. It also goes 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, has a stiffer suspension, slightly drops lower than the original SLR, and goes 209 mph.The 722 name comes from when Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson won the Mille Miglia in 1955 in the M-B 300 SLR after starting the race at 7:22 a.m.
Aston Martin DB9 Volante
Fun fact: Jordan never registered his vehicles in his name. He always put them in either his wife’s name or under his company’s moniker. This DB9 Volante was one of them
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
The 5999 cc Gran Turismo Berlinetta replaced the 575M Maranello back in 2006 and ran its course through 2012. The sumptuous styling was paired with a 612-horsepower V12 that sprinted to 62 in 3.7 seconds. Retirements is good for the GOAT.
Aston Martin DB7 Volante
This car was a special order for Jordan with a “Rannoch Red” paint job and “Parchment” interior. It has a 420-horsepower V12 that packs 400 lb-ft of torque.
Ferrari 512 TR
The star of one of Jordan’s most famous off-field photos, the M-AIR-J 512 TR, was a modified version of the base Testarossa. It cost $212,000 in the early ’90s.
Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG
When he wasn’t in one of his Aston convertibles, he downgraded into an AMG drop-top. Oh darn.
