It's one thing to know that Volvos are durable vehicles, quite another to see one take on everything an old junkyard can throw at it. What you see above is a mid-90s 850 wagon—one of the safest cars on the road—smashing compact cars into accordions and driving away with only a few cuts and bruises, accompanied (annoyingly, if appropriately) by “Yakety Sax.”
The video shows how the 850 is both a safe family car and righteous demolitionist, but mostly it shows how cool it is when cars smash into things over and over. Supercars racing around a track makes for titillating viewing, but too seldom do you seem them fly through the air and flatten a European hatchback. Consider that deficit corrected.
The Volvo itself looks nearly demolished by the end of the video, but it's not clear whether the Swede gave up the ghost or its human drivers simply wearied of finding novel ways to smash it into less-sturdy cars. We’re betting on the latter.
