Google just released its list of the top searches of 2013 and revealed some interesting results. The list has some of the top selling brands of this year, but the top three are brands that sell in fall lower volume. The high-volume brands are no brainers, but we’ll try to shed some light on why you were searching for cars that you were least likely to buy. We’ll also look at the most-searched single car models, as determined by digging into each brand’s search data a little more. Here’s what we came up with:
The Mazda3 is a fun-to-drive small car, and the searches likely benefit from the combination of consumers and the performance community.
9.) Subaru Impreza
The Impreza was new for the 2014 model year, and though sales are strong, we suspect a lot of people searching this car were looking for the forthcoming WRX performance sedan.
8.) Dodge (RAM) 1500
Chrysler split off the Ram truck brand from Dodge in 2010, but apparently that notion has not yet sunk in with everyone. The RAM 1500 was announced as Car and Driver’s Truck of the Year and with sales still running strong, Dodge…er– RAM can still get through buyers not knowing what the brand is really named.
7.) GMC Sierra 1500
Both the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are all-new for the 2014 model year, and when the heart of your searches are in Wyoming, North Dakota, Louisiana and Arkansas, it is safe to say the Sierra is being searched by folks who are seriously considering buying a truck.
6.) Toyota Camry
This one is pretty straightforward. The Toyota Camry is one of the best selling cars in America. People are searching the Camry because they are seriously considering it as their next car. The only surprise was that the top state for Camry searches was Hawaii. Why would you want such a boring car in such a beautiful place?
5.) Jeep Cherokee
Jeep decided to revive the Cherokee name with a new crossover. The American off-road brand took a bold gamble on the looks and we’re sure people were looking up the new Cherokee to make up their own minds on the new appearance.
4.) Ford F-Series
Between the F-150 and the Super Duty class, this is the top high-volume make and model to top Google’s search queries. The F-150 is also one of the top selling vehicles in America, and folks searching this truck are likely in the market for a new pickup.
MINI is not as exclusive as the following brands on this list, but it is not really a volume brand– only selling about 4500 units in November. John Cooper Works is one of the top searches within Mini, so its good to see people are interested in its nimble performance.
2.) Bugatti Veyron
If you have to ask… The Veyron is Bugatti’s only model, and the second most searched brand is one that draws dreamers– people who obviously cannot afford the 1,000-plus-horsepower hypercar.

This should come as no surprise. The Model S has been the darling of the automotive world. But Tesla has also been in the news with rumors of upcoming models, the announcement of an innovative battery replacement system, oh– and several car fires.
