Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg has recently taken delivery of his highly anticipated Mercedes-AMG One hypercar. In his latest video update, Rosberg provides an in-depth look at the delivery process and discusses the car’s development with Jochen Hermann, Chief Technical Officer of Mercedes-AMG.
Rosberg’s AMG One is finished in a distinctive Grigio Ferro, a unique silver shade originally from Ferrari’s palette, making it stand out from other units. This particular model also features a black three-pointed star on its nose, setting it apart even further.
The Mercedes-AMG One is designed to deliver the thrill of a Formula 1 car for the road. It boasts a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine, identical to the one Rosberg raced with in his F1 career back in 2015. This internal combustion engine is complemented by two electric motors, producing a combined output of 1,063 horsepower. The hypercar can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds and reach 124 mph in 7 seconds.
However, the AMG One’s journey to the streets was fraught with challenges. Mercedes-AMG had to develop specialized software to handle the car's intricate systems, which would typically be managed by a team of engineers in a Formula 1 setting. Issues such as battery overheating and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) concerns caused significant delays during development. Despite these hurdles, Mercedes-AMG succeeded in creating what is expected to be one of the most extraordinary automobiles ever produced.
Rosberg's excitement over his new hypercar is palpable, reflecting not just personal triumph but also the culmination of a challenging engineering feat. Another notable former Mercedes-AMG F1 driver, Valtteri Bottas, also owns an AMG One, underscoring the car’s appeal among racing elites.
