Colton Herta is a standout even among a totally stacked IndyCar grid. The 22-year-old Californian is one of the best young American racers out there, and onboard footage from last weekend's GMR Grand Prix on the Indianapolis road course is proof.

Rain before the green flag left the track slick, and the entire field started on wet tires. Starting back in 14th, Herta and his team took a gamble and switched to slicks before anyone else, arguably the move that won him the race. Still, in racing, there's a fine line between glory and agony, and for the first two laps of his slick-tire running, Herta danced atop that line. If you're on social media, you probably saw Herta's epic save when chasing down Pato O'Ward—and Dario Franchitti's perfect reaction—but it's well worth watching the entire onboard posted by the IndyCar series. It's a car-control masterclass.

The rest of the race was chaotic, with long yellows and rain, but Herta managed to take the checkered flag after. This was Herta's seventh win in four years of full-time IndyCar competition, and surely one of many more to come. Herta also has real Formula 1 prospects, having signed a development deal with McLaren. His driving display here could very well help him land a deserved full-time ride.
