When it comes to exotic cars like Ferraris, it’s often said that the cheapest one to buy is far from the least expensive to own, due to factors like deferred maintenance. That's not always the case, however — as the Ferrari in this story is both inexpensive to buy and cheap to run. It’s a Ferrari Formula 1 car-style electric go-kart — and it might be the coolest way to get your kid into motorsports.

Built by the folks at TT Toys Toys in Italy, the small toy car features a plastic body sitting atop a steel chassis. A single electric motor feeds the rear wheels directly, while two six-volt batteries provide the juice for the contraption.

This little Ferrari race car can go both forward and backwards, with the switch-off handled by a reverse control on the right side of the cockpit. On the left side, there's a manual handbrake, which will hopefully enable some sweet drifts once your kid is proficient. It’s not really the functionality of this car that makes it cool, though: the bodywork and branding are special. This isn’t just any Ferrari F1-style kart — it’s a Michael Schumacher variant.

This TT toy comes from the historic Schumacher era of F1, and as such, its design features the logos of many of the brands that graced the race cars in the 1990s. Fiat, Goodyear, Shell, BBS, Brembo, and Pioneer decals sit on each side of the car. It also has his number 1 decal on the nose, and tail fins of the giant spoiler at the back.

As of this writing, the go-kart has a high bid on Bring a Trailer of just $2,000. The auction is scheduled to extend for a week from this story's publication, however, so that will likely go up. The batteries are new in preparation for the sale. Sure, this might not be a ‘real’ Ferrari, and it’s certainly not anything close to a real F1 car. Nevertheless, it could well be one of the coolest ways to get your kid into motorsport.
