Have you been wondering whether Lee Iacocca truly managed to redefine the pony car market with the front-wheel drive Dodge Daytona / Chrysler Laser hatchbacks of 1983? If so, that's weird, but not to worry! Just ask yourself this: Would I prefer to have a 1964-1/2 Ford Mustang, or a 1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo?

If you chose the Daytona, that's also weird, but there's some good news for you. For starters, the top-of-the-crop turbo versions handle so well (for a front-wheeler) that you have a theoretical chance of keeping up with any Saab 900 Turbo you come across. The 2.2 four-cylinder's 142 horsepower and 160 lb-ft of torque make no question about that.

Choose a Z-package model, and your sporty G-body hatchback will come with a rear spoiler, as well as neat features such as a "video arcade dash," hatch-mounted sun visors, a functional hood scoop and tight body gaps all around thanks to Chrysler's advanced robots in St. Louis.

Who cares about milage, braking performance or shifting feel, when you get a five-year guarantee on your turbo? And did I mention those leather seats with the inflatable lumbar and thigh support-that you pump up with a squeeze bulb identical to the one your doctor uses to check your blood pressure? No Mustang has that.

K-engine, G-body, A+ pony car fun!
