Far too often the image of law enforcement agencies like Ohio State Highway Patrol is that they’re hardnosed to the point of uncaring. When you deal with criminals who prey on people’s kindness, it’s easy for someone to have that perception. But then videos like this one of a trooper rescuing some puppies which were wandering onto a road emerges and it reminds everyone cops are people and they do, in fact, have a heart.
Road rage suspect brings a hammer to a gunfight.
Dashcam footage shows the trooper turn around after seeing the puppies in the road. She even gets frustrated with a driver going the opposite direction for not noticing and trying harder to avoid the living creatures.
Positioning her Dodge Charger cruiser to avoid another close call, she gets out and approaches the tail-wagging pups as shown in her bodycam footage. In her voice isn’t even the hint of edge as she calls out the to puppies, encouraging them to go back up towards the house from which they likely broke out.
She’s obviously comfortable with dogs and so was able to get them back up to the house, either scooping them up or encouraging them to walk with her. Once there she put some in an outdoor kennel they tried immediately trying to break out of and trapped the remainder in the garage.
How exactly the poochies got out in the first place wasn’t made clear, but Ohio State Highway Patrol did say dispatch contacted the puppies’ owner who came home to take care of them.
The trooper didn’t have to rescue the puppies in the road, but she saw living creatures in danger and took action. To us this is a perfect example of protecting and serving, something cops don’t always get right but we appreciate when they do.

"Watch out for the dog, watch out for the dog, watch out for the dog," said Tpr. Halle Paris, Norwalk Post, after she came across puppies in the roadway in June in Huron Co. The puppies escaped while their owner was away. Fortunately, Tpr. Paris was there to save the day!
