Oklahoma HS baseball: Fort Cobb-Broxton claims Class B title, Rattan wins Class A crown
Jaxon Willits and the Fort Cobb-Broxton baseball program knew Roff was likely the main team that stood in the way of a spring state title this season.
Fort Cobb-Broxton lost to Roff last year in both the fall and spring championship games.
But after beating Roff for the title this past fall season, there was something different within Fort Cobb-Broxton’s program.
“I think the biggest thing was confidence,” Willits said. “We had confidence in ourselves. Last year, we were younger and then this year, we just had confidence. We knew we could go out and win.”

That’s exactly what Fort Cobb-Broxton did Monday.
The Mustangs rolled to a 9-4 victory against Roff in the Class B state title game at Edmond Santa Fe, claiming their third spring championship.
Roff was the four-time defending spring champion in Class B.
But Fort Cobb-Broxton (31-4), which claimed the Class A title in 2021, was too much for the Tigers (27-7).
Blaine Davis was dominant on the mound and pitched the whole game for Fort Cobb-Broxton. A junior right-handed submarine thrower, he allowed just seven hits and also had two hits and two RBI.
Although Davis allowed hits to the first two batters he faced, Cade Baldridge and Dylan Reed, and they ended up scoring, Davis settled in after that.
Offensively, Blayke Nunn led Fort Cobb-Broxton, finishing with three hits and five RBI.
“It meant a whole, whole lot,” the senior said. “For my last game, I’m glad I went out like this.”

The game was tight heading into the sixth as Fort Cobb-Broxton led 4-3, but the Mustangs scored four runs in the frame to pull away.
Willits drove in one on a single before another runner scored on a throwing error. Nunn drove in two more on a single later in the inning.
Willits, a senior OU signee, finished with two hits, as did his younger brother, freshman OU commit Eli Willits.
The Willits brothers are the sons of OU associate head coach and former Los Angeles Angels outfielder Reggie Willits, and each one played a big role in the win.
“It’s been an honor,” Eli said. “Getting to play with my older brother and then those seniors, they’re just like family to me. It’s going to be a struggle next year, but we’re up for it.”
For Fort Cobb-Broxton coach Dale Bellamy, the victory was the perfect end to the season.
“It’s everything,” he said. “That’s what they work for. We won it in the fall, we won it in basketball, and so we wanted to finish it off, and they did. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

Class A: Rattan 11, Sterling 3
Logan Smith’s pitch hit catcher Seth Springfield’s glove after zipping past a Sterling batter’s swing, and Rattan’s entire infield tossed their gloves as high as they could.
As a dog pile soon formed on the mound, every member of the team ran in and joined, with some players even jumping on top.
The celebration was certainly warranted.
Because for the first time since 2015, Rattan is a state baseball champion.
The Rams defeated Sterling 11-3 in the Class A state title game Monday at Edmond Santa Fe for their eighth spring baseball crown.
Smith played a big role in the victory. He finished with a homer and double and drove in three runs for the Rams. He even pitched the final 3⅓ innings and helped Rattan stay in the driver’s seat.
“It’s just an unbelievable feeling, man,” Smith said. “All the hard work we put in, it’s just great to finally get the ring.”

Keegan Robertson started on the mound for Rattan (26-6) before Smith came in.
The game was tight early, and Sterling (26-5) got on the scoreboard first after leadoff hitter Nate Anderson hammered a triple to begin the game and was driven in by Tyler Pierce.
Rattan had just a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth, but the Rams dominated from there and scored seven unanswered runs over their next three at-bats.
Rattan had a solid day at the plate and finished with 11 hits.
James Childers led the team with three hits and had two doubles, while Jace May had two hits.
“It’s probably the most special one that I’ve been a part of,” Rattan coach Michael Clay said as he reflected on the season. “For me especially. I got a son (Cale Clay) that’s a senior shortstop here. And pretty much all these boys, I’ve coached them since they were about nine years old, so this is a big one.”
