Only Three Drivers Want to Drink Skim Milk If They Win the 100th Indy 500

From the singing of Back Home Again In Indiana to the singing of God Bless America to the flyover to the release of the balloons to 33 cars neatly organized in rows of three, the Indy 500 is a tradition made of traditions. One of the longest running traditions is the winner drinking milk in victory lane.

It's a tradition started by Louis Meyer after he asked for butter milk in pit lane, which was something he drank on warm days for reasons we don't totally understand. But once he drank it, the tradition stuck and nearly every winner since has had milk in victory lane. Emerson Fittipaldi's decision to drink orange juice in 1993 did not endear him to the fans.

None of this year's drivers would dare drink OJ, or cranberry juice, or Gatorade. They're all drinking milk. Of the 33 starters, just three-Charlie Kimball, Pippa Mann, and Spencer Pigot, would want skim milk if they won. The rest want two percent or whole.
