The Mt. Washington hillclimb is one of the biggest motorsport events in the northeast. People come from all around the world to compete, resulting in some seriously exciting action up the 7.6-mile course. And it looks like a Subaru driver just broke the course record. Again.

This article, originally published 7/12/2017, has been updated with an onboard video of Pastrana's run.

Subaru factory driver Travis Pastrana shattered Mt. Washington's hillclimb record on Sunday by setting a time of 5:44.72, over 24 seconds faster than the previous record of 6:09.09 set by teammate David Higgins in 2014. Higgins also competed this year, but wrecked out about two miles from the finish, ending any hopes of nailing down a clean run.

Pastrana's car is a Vermont SportsCar-built Subaru WRX STI, set up specifically to tackle the changing course surface of Mt. Washington, which goes from pavement to gravel about halfway up the hill. The car makes 600 horsepower from its turbocharged boxer four-cylinder engine, which might explain how Pastrana went so fast.

And unlike previous Mt. Washington hillclimb events, co-drivers were not allowed to ride along, meaning Pastrana did it all on his own - impressive to say the least.

Mt. Washington hillclimb happens once every three years, so we'll have to wait until 2020 to find out if someone can take the crown from Subaru. The company's uploaded an in-cockpit view of the run, which you can watch right here.
